Types of Terminal Boxes in Ex Motors

It must have happened to you to see different codes on the NAMEPLATE of electric motors and get confused.

This time, we want to explain about one of these things related to the terminal box, which you only see in explosion-proof electric motors.

Types of Terminal Boxes in Ex Motors:

  • Flameproof Enclosures (Ex d):

Purpose: They are designed to withstand internal explosion without allowing the flame to escape to the outside environment.

Application: They are usually used in environments with the presence of volatile gases.

  • Increased Safety Enclosures (Ex e):

Purpose:   Instead of containing the explosion, it prevents sparks by securing the internal parts.

Application: Suitable for areas with a lower risk of gas explosion.

  • Pressurized Enclosures (Ex p):

Purpose:  By maintaining positive pressure inside the box, it prevents explosive gases and dust from entering inside.

Application: Usually in environments with dust or explosive gases.

  • Dust Ignition Protection (Ex t):

Purpose:   It prevents dust from entering the box and prevents internal explosion.

Applicatio :  Used primarily in industries dealing with combustible dust.

Considering that each of the terminal boxes has its own industrial features, they are different in terms of price.

Exp And exd is more expensive

No1. (Ex p)

These types of terminal boxes need a continuous supply of clean air or inert gas to prevent the entry of explosive gases or dust by creating positive pressure. This system includes additional equipment such as venting systems, pressure regulators and monitoring systems, which increase the initial cost and maintenance cost.

No2. (Ex d)

These enclosures must have the ability to withstand internal explosions and prevent the flame from escaping. For this reason, they require thick walls and durable materials such as cast aluminum or stainless steel, which are expensive.

RAEL electric motors can also produce Ex electric motors with all types of these terminal boxes in aluminum bodies with modern technology.

The body of the electric motors have similar standards, which we will explain in future articles.
